![]() ![]() A similar panting maneuver with the shutter open is used to calculate airway resistance. Although body plethysmography is generally the most accurate method for measurement of lung volumes, particularly in patients with airway obstruction, it can overestimate lung volumes if panting is too rapid. A plethysmographic total lung capacity greater than 150% of the reference value should be viewed with suspicion. Lung volumes also can be measured by having the patient rebreathe from a device containing a known volume and concentration of an inert gas (e.g., helium, neon, argon, or methane), which does not react with elements in the blood or tissues, until equilibrium is achieved. The final concentration of helium equals the initial helium concentration times the initial volume of the device divided by the final volume of the lungs plus the device, adjusting for oxygen consumption and carbon dioxide production during the test. The equation can be solved for lung volume. This method underestimates lung volumes when portions of the lung communicate poorly with the central airways, particularly in patients with emphysematous bullae. The air that we breathe consists of approximately 21% oxygen, 1% argon, 0.04% carbon dioxide, and a variable amount of water vapor. Exhaled air contains a lower concentration of oxygen, usually 14 to 16%, plus 3 to 5% carbon dioxide and water. For the nitrogen washout technique, the test subject inhales 100% oxygen beginning at FRC. ![]() As the subject breathes, exhaled gas is collected until the concentration of nitrogen reaches a plateau. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() Whether you buy it or not, this notion of a still-deadly old soldier committed to decency and literacy and tough love is awfully seductive. Certainly Bickle would've envied Old Man McCall's gift for hand-to-hand combat, which appears to make him invulnerable even when fighting covert-ops types who've had the same training he's had, but are decades younger. In one montage, McCall takes silent note of the vast swath of humanity finding brief succor in the back of his car, and The Equalizer 2 threatens to become a bizarro remake of Taxi Driver wherein Travis Bickle is just melancholy instead of sociopathic. He's a Lyft driver in this movie, perhaps because killing a bunch bad guys at at hardware store where he was working in the last one, using a drill and other home-improvement essentials, required him to find a new gig. As a less credulity-straining intervention, McCall gives the kid a copy of Ta-Nehisi Coates' memoir Between the World and Me (which we see him reading himself in the opening scene) and urges him to read it. The kid is a talented aspiring artist who has fallen in with a bad crowd - one from whom McCall extricates him, in the movie's single silliest scene, at gunpoint. Wenk accomplishes this by giving McCall an at-risk, college-age buddy played with by Moonlight's Ashton Sanders. Screenwriter Richard Wenk's orders were apparently to spice up the investigation-and-vengeance formula with a few monologues that might help the two-time Oscar-winning star to feel like he's in another August Wilson play. The air and water temperature always seems to be comfortable. I think both my kids liked swimming in this the best. Kids seem to love this, as there are almost always at least a couple waiting to go, but Ive also seen adults do it. Another pool has a net and some floating pads for you to crawl across without falling in the water. ![]() There are 2 short body tube slides for all ages. A kiddie area has some slides for small children only. There is a pool with some space to just sit or swim or play water basketball (2 baskets). The first room is packed, with 2 hot tubs (one for adults only) that are more like lukewarm bath water, yet for some reason always at or near capacity. There is also a small area for little kids. These are fast, very fun, and there is usually only a short line. And behind the wave pool are 4 sled tubes, where you lay stomach-first on a blue mat and race around a tube and then shoot down a drop. You can do a double raft or a single in either of these. There are two raft tubes beside this that often have longer lines, but they are fun. This can be packed, but usually it’s not too bad. I think the waves come every 5 minutes or so. It’s usually pretty full of people just standing there, though. This is best if you like deep water and a little turbulence to swim in. There is the wave pool, which is large and goes to about 5 feet deep, though that fluctuates when the waves are going of course. It’s also the most thrilling ride by far. Not many people want to do that so you can easily find a few times a day where you could do this over and over without waiting for more than 1 person in line or even giving up your raft to the next person in line because there is no line. The line for is kept short by the fact that you have to carry these big rafts up the stairs, and they’re a bit heavy and bulky. Behind that is the tornado, the big funnel tube slide for 2-4 people. Next to it is a nice sized area for small kids. The inside has a large play tower designed for children but it’s not off limits for adults, and it’s worth at least checking out even if not your thing. We didn’t consider this a black mark, just a tip. There is more to do with us you don’t have to worry about sunburn. The outside has just 2 water slides which aren’t anything special, a kiddie area with a small sort of lazy river (no tubes or water flow, but a vague circular shape) m, and a large pool area which is mostly shallow (less than 4 feet). This was partially due to poor weather (most of the time it was below 70 and raining, so outside was either closed or unappealing), but we all agreed if it had been perfect weather we still wouldn’t have gone out probably at all. We stayed 3 nights and only spent an hour outside. There is nothing wrong with the outside, but it’s not worth altering plans to make it available like we did. This time we wanted to experience the outside attractions so we came in July. We all (family of 4 parents in their 40s, boy 7, girl 11) really enjoyed our time here in pretty much all aspects. If you’re in over your head in debt and can’t find your way out, your mortgage company may approve a short sale. It may be a tradeoff – you may get a little less money for the home but sell it fast. The upside, however, is wholesalers often have a vast network of buyers available so they can help you sell your home faster. This works well with undervalued properties in need of work that you aren’t willing to do or don’t have the money to manage. One downside is that wholesalers look for deals because they want to convince a buyer to pay more for the property than is paid to the seller and profit from the difference. ![]() ![]() I haven’t done this myself, but I’ve seen it work for many weavers. I have seen many weavers put rya knots at the bottom of their weave and then when they take it off the notched loom, they just let the rya knots fall into those bottom warp loops. ![]() All you would do is simply pass the rod through the loops. You would then sew the weave to a rod to hang it as I did in this post.īut if you weave all the way to the top of the loom and leave about 1 inch of warp threads, you could simply slip the ward threads off the loom notches and then use the warp loops to hang your wall hanging from a rod. You would then tie it off, like I show in the post, and weave it through the back side just like you did with the yarn tails. If you do something similar to what I did in this post then you would lay the loom on a flat surface and cut the warp threads at the top so that you have 2-3 inches of warp thread coming out of your piece. To finish your piece, I’ll start with the top. Once I pull the yarn tail through these two then I trim it and just leave it like that. I have a yarn tail on the side of my weave and I’m using my tapestry needle to pull the yarn tail through two “stitches” on the back of the weave. ![]() The second picture that I posted here is showing what I’m talking about. For the yarn tails that you have sticking out along your weave, all you need to do is ‘weave’ them into the back of your piece. Hi Maria, I totally understand it can be very intimidating in the beginning. What do you think of your completed weave? Was it easier or harder then you thought it would be? I would love to see your completed projects, if you’re on Instagram, please tag me Weaving! You have now completed your wall hanging! For the bottom warp loops, follow the same steps you would for the simple frame loom (above). You could also use a natural branch to hang your weave from if you prefer, as long as what you use is a few inches wider then your weave. To finish on a peg loom, take the top warp loops off the pegs/front notches and put the dowel or metal rod that you will hang the weave through the loops. Tie this piece of warp thread securely at both ends of your rod or stick. A good estimate of the length would be about twice the width of your weave. Now that your weave is attached to a hanging rod or stick, take another piece of warp thread making sure it is long enough to hang your weave. Continue with this process until you reach the end of the weave and tie off the warp thread in a secure double knot. (If you need help deciding what to hang your weave from, check out my post with some different options here)īring the warp thread back through the top of your weave at the warp thread, about three spaces over. Now take some warp thread or yarn, and tie it securely to the warp thread in your weave, loop it around your rod or stick that you will mount your weave from. Next trim the long tails of the warp threads you wove through the back of your weave. Once finished with the top warp, do the same with the bottom warp threads. If you don’t want to finish your weave by tying off your warp ends, see my post on finishing with the hem stitch. ![]() To finish on a simple frame loom, cut the warp threads off the top of the frame, tie the two warp threads together, then weave the ends in through the back of your weave. For example, if you pull the thread ends too tight in the back, you may cause an unwanted bump in the front. I also make sure to flip my weave over as I go to make sure that I haven’t caused issues in the front of my weave. If you have different colored threads in your weave make sure that your weaving the loose colors in with the same colored woven area, this is to ensure that colors don’t show through the front of your weave. Start by taking a tapestry needle and weave in all your loose threads in the back of your weave. So check out both finishing techniques and choose which one works best for you.** **As an update, I have made a post on finishing your weave with a hem stitch, which gives it a cleaner finish (in my opinion). Depending on which frame loom (a simple frame or a notched frame) you used to create your weave on will affect how you finish your weave. Congratulations on completing your weave! His family was well-known for its scientific and intellectual achievements: Huxley's father, Leonard, was a renowned editor and essayist, and his highly educated mother ran her own boarding school. Author BiographyĪldous Huxley was born on July 26, 1894, in Laleham near Godalming, Surrey, England, but he grew up in London. When the Savage, a man from the uncontrolled area of the world (an Indian reservation in New Mexico) comes to London, he questions the society and ultimately has to choose between conformity and death. All spend their free time indulging in harmless and mindless entertainment and sports activities. As adults, people are content to fulfill their destinies as part of five social classes, from the intelligent Alphas, who run the factories, to the mentally challenged Epsilons, who do the most menial jobs. Children are raised together and subjected to mind control through sleep teaching to further condition them. These Controllers create human beings in factories, using technology to make ninety-six people from the same fertilized egg and to condition them for their future lives. Standardization and progress are valued above all else. However, in order to maintain such a smoothly running society, the ten people in charge of the world, the Controllers, eliminate most forms of freedom and twist around many traditionally held human values. They enjoy leisure time, material wealth, and physical pleasures. People all around the world are part of a totalitarian state, free from war, hatred, poverty, disease, and pain. The story is set in a London six hundred years in the future. The novel is best appreciated as an ironic commentary on contemporary values. Because Brave New World is a novel of ideas, the characters and plot are secondary, even simplistic. Though he was already a best-selling author, Huxley achieved international acclaim with this now-classic novel. In it, the author questions the values of 1931 London, using satire and irony to portray a futuristic world in which many of the contemporary trends in British and American society have been taken to extremes. Written in 1931 and published the following year, Aldous Huxley's Brave New World is a dystopian-or antiutopian-novel. ![]() |
